From The Beginning
At the beginning if 2004, thanks to Richard Clark and Route 6x6, I put the word out that I wanted to start an original Jiger restoration project. This was not an easy decision considering the bulk of these machines were not sold anywhere close to my home in Manitoba. I received a few emails but most were Versatrek Jigers, or Gypsies’. My luck changed in February 2004. I purchased 2 Jiger 197’s from Bob Gray in Wisconsin. The serial numbers are 7-2565 & 7-3260. I hitched a ride with my two bothers who were heading down to Minneapolis on business. The Jigers were a little rough, but not unexpected for 40 year old machines. Allot of the clutch parts were missing, there was only one engine, and as expected there was only two good tires, neither of which were original. But to find two machines within a 12 hour drive was quite fortunate. Crossing the border was very confusing for Canada Customs. They didn't quite know how to classify these "antiques". In the end they were very fair and I got the Jigers home to my Dad’s farm, where the bulk of the restoration will happen. |
